3For thou art my rock and my fortress; Therefore for thy name’s sake lead me and guide me.
2Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.
3For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.
Commentary · verses 2-3
With "lead me and guide me," David was asking for grace: "the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life."
4Pluck me out of the net that they have laid privily for me; For thou art my stronghold.
5Into thy hand I commend my spirit: Thou hast redeemed me, O Jehovah, thou God of truth.
4Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.
5Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.
Commentary · verses 4-5
"Into thy hand I commend my spirit:" In Luke 23:46, Jesus said this right before He died.
6I hate them that regard lying vanities; But I trust in Jehovah.
7I will be glad and rejoice in thy lovingkindness; For thou hast seen my affliction: Thou hast known my soul in adversities; 8And thou hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; Thou hast set my feet in a large place.
6I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.
7I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;
8And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.
Commentary · verses 6-8
God put David's feet in a large place. If you trusted in God, He would make known to you where to walk.
9Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah, for I am in distress: Mine eye wasteth away with grief, yea, my soul and my body.
10For my life is spent with sorrow, And my years with sighing: My strength faileth because of mine iniquity, And my bones are wasted away.
9Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.
10For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
Commentary · verses 9-10
David wanted mercy. David recognized that his strength failed because of his iniquity.
11Because of all mine adversaries I am become a reproach, Yea, unto my neighbors exceedingly, And a fear to mine acquaintance: They that did see me without fled from me.
12I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
13For I have heard the defaming of many, Terror on every side: While they took counsel together against me, They devised to take away my life.
11I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.
12I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
13For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.
Commentary · verses 11-13
David was broken because he knew what his enemies said and devised against him.
14But I trusted in thee, O Jehovah: I said, Thou art my God.
15My times are in thy hand: Deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
14But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.
15My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
Commentary · verses 14-15
However, David had his trust in God.
16Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: Save me in thy lovingkindness.
17Let me not be put to shame, O Jehovah; for I have called upon thee: Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol.
18Let the lying lips be dumb, Which speak against the righteous insolently, With pride and contempt.
16Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies’ sake.
17Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
18Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
Commentary · verses 16-18
Liars spoke against the righteous with pride and contempt.
19Oh how great is thy goodness, Which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee, Which thou hast wrought for them that take refuge in thee, Before the sons of men!
20In the covert of thy presence wilt thou hide them from the plottings of man: Thou wilt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
21Blessed be Jehovah; For he hath showed me his marvellous lovingkindness in a strong city.
22As for me, I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: Nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications, When I cried unto thee.
19Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
20Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
21Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.
22For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
Commentary · verses 19-22
Even when David reacted quickly and stated that he was cut off from God's Eyes, God still heard David's cry.
23Oh love Jehovah, all ye his saints: Jehovah preserveth the faithful, And plentifully rewardeth him that dealeth proudly.
23O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

2Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
Commentary · verses 1-2
Blessings came to those who did not have guile in their spirit. "Guile" meant "deceit." Paul referenced these two verses in Romans 4:7-8.
3When I kept silence, my bones wasted away Through my groaning all the day long.
4For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: My moisture was changed as with the drought of summer. Selah

6For this let every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: Surely when the great waters overflow they shall not reach unto him.

Commentary · verses 1-4
God's Word was Right and His works were done in faithfulness. Faith was a belief in something you couldn't see, either because it was invisible or it had not happened yet (Hebrews 11:1). If God had faith, what were the implications concerned with what faith meant?

Commentary · verse 10
The counsel of the nations was man's way of thinking. God made man's way of thinking of no effect. This meant God's plan for eternity will come to pass, regardless of the thoughts of man. However, man could hinder how long it took for God's Will to be fulfilled.
