Daniel 12
Daniel 12
Commentary · verses 1-13
1And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who standeth for the children of thy people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

3And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
Commentary · verses 1-3
Michael will stand up and the Tribulation period (time of trouble) will come to an end. The completion of the Dispensation of the Law is the beginning of the Millennial Reign of Christ.
4But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
4But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Commentary · verse 4
We do not have the explanation for what Daniel saw in chapter 10 and the subsequent details until the time of the end when "many shall run to and fro (transportation?) and knowledge shall be increased (internet capabilities?)." Could this be now?
5Then I, Daniel, looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on the brink of the river on this side, and the other on the brink of the river on that side.
6And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
5Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
6And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
Commentary · verses 5-6
The angels were talking to each other.
7And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when they have made an end of breaking in pieces the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
7And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
Commentary · verse 7
3 1/2 years is 1260 days. Christ returns for the battle of Armageddon and then the Millennial Reign.
8And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my lord, what shall be the issue of these things?
9And he said, Go thy way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed till the time of the end.
8And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
9And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
Commentary · verses 8-9
Daniel did not get an explanation.
10Many shall purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined; but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand; but they that are wise shall understand.
11And from the time that the continual burnt-offering shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
10Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
11And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
Commentary · verses 10-11
Thirty more days (1260 + 30 = 1290) to judge the nations. Apparently there will be at least thirty days between Armageddon and the beginning of Christ's Millennial Reign.
12Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
12Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
Commentary · verse 12
Forty-five more days (1290 + 45 = 1335) to set up the Messiah's Government. Whether the Millennial Reign begins at the 1335th day or the 1290th day (or somewhere in between), these verses did not specify.
13But go thou thy way till the end be; for thou shalt rest, and shalt stand in thy lot, at the end of the days.
13But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
Commentary · verse 13
The Apocrypha had two more chapters at the end of the Book of Daniel. Chapter 13 - Susanna, Chapter 14 - Bel and the Dragon.
Taking these last six chapters together, here was what we have learned about end times prophecy:
There will be four great world leaders (beasts) culminating in the fourth world leader who will bring peace for 3 1/2 years which will cause people to relax. During this time, the world's economy will prosper. Then, after 2300 days of offerings being given in the temple, this fourth world leader will commit a transgression that makes desolate in the temple and torment God's people for three and a half years before God permanently defeats evil and establishes His Kingdom, seven years total. This fourth world leader will get power from ten smaller world leaders (beasts). There would be a dispensation that occurred before the seven-year period that brought about the completion of the Dispensation of the Law. The purpose of the 6th dispensation was for God to directly reach out to people outside of Israel. From the time the command to rebuild the temple would be given, the people of Israel had 490 years to complete their dispensation. There would be 483 years between the time of the command to rebuild the temple and the death of the Messiah. Then after the 6th dispensation, the final seven years (known as the "70th Week") would bring the completion of the 5th dispensation. This "70th Week" was the same seven-year period mentioned in conjunction with the fourth beast. There appeared to be between thirty and seventy-five days between the battle of Armageddon and the beginning of Christ's Millennial Reign.
The Book of Daniel was the fifth and final book that made up the major prophets section of the Old Testament. Part I consisted of six chapters and presented the history of interactions with three "heathen" kings: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, and Darius. Part II consisted of six chapters and presented critical prophecy concerning the end times. Supernatural events were presented throughout the entire Book of Daniel: visions, miracles, and angels.
The next and final section of the Old Testament consisted of twelve books and was referred to as the minor prophets section of the Old Testament because the books were shorter.
